Egg yolks are good for you
The truth about egg yolks
Many people throw away the egg yolk because they think that's where all the nasty fat and cholesterol is". This is a perfect example of how confused most people are about nutrition.
In a world full of misinformation, somehow most people now mistakenly think that the egg yolk is the worst part of the egg, when in fact, the YOLK IS THE HEALTHIEST PART OF THE EGG!
By throwing out the yolk and only eating egg whites, you're essentially throwing out the most nutrient dense, antioxidant-rich, vitamin and mineral loaded portion of the egg. The yolks contain so many B-vitamins, trace minerals, vitamin A, folate, choline, lutein, and other powerful nutrients... it's not even worth trying to list them all.
In fact, the egg whites are almost devoid of nutrition compared to the yolk. Even the protein in egg whites isn't as powerful without the yolks to balance out the amino acid profile and make the protein more bio-available. Not to even mention that the egg yolks from free range chickens are loaded with omega-3 fatty acids. Yolks contain more than 90% of the calcium, iron, phosphorus, zinc, thiamin, B6, folate, and B12, and panthothenic acid of the egg. In addition, the yolks contain all of the fat soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K in the egg, as well as all of the essential fatty acids.
And now the common objection I get all the time when I say that the yolks are the most nutritious part of the egg..."But I heard that whole eggs will skyrocket my cholesterol through the roof ." No, this is FALSE!
First of all, when you eat a food that contains a high amount of dietary cholesterol such as eggs, your body down-regulates it's internal production of cholesterol to balance things out. On the other hand, if you don't eat enough cholesterol, your body simply produces more since cholesterol has tons of important functions in the body.
And here's where it gets even more interesting...There are indications that eating whole eggs actually raises your good HDL cholesterol to a higher degree than LDL cholesterol, thereby improving your overall cholesterol ratio and blood
chemistry.
And 3rd... high cholesterol is NOT a disease! Heart disease is a disease...but high cholesterol is NOT.
So I hope we've established that whole eggs are not some evil food that will wreck your body... instead whole eggs are FAR superior to egg whites.
Also, your normal supermarket eggs coming from mass factory farming just don't compare nutritionally with organic free range eggs from healthy chickens that are allowed to roam freely and eat a more natural diet.
I recently compared eggs I bought at the grocery store with a batch of eggs I got at a farm stand where the chickens were free roaming and healthy. Most people don't realize that there's a major difference because they've never bought real eggs from healthy chickens... The eggs from the grocery store had pale yellow yolks. On the other hand, the healthier free range eggs had deep orange colored yolks indicating much higher nutrition levels and carotenoids.
So next time a health or fitness professional tells you that egg whites are superior, you can quietly ignore their advice knowing that you understand the REAL deal about egg yolks.
One more thing about eggs... I read a study recently that compared groups of people that ate egg breakfasts vs groups of people that ate cereal or bagel based breakfasts. The results of the study showed that the egg eaters lost or maintained a healthier bodyweight, while the cereal/bagel eaters gained weight.
It was hypothesized that the egg eaters actually ate less calories during the remainder of the day because their appetite was more satisfied compared to the cereal/bagel eaters who would have been more prone to wild blood sugar swings and food cravings.

Static electricity in Petrol Stations
We want to share the lesson of the day with everyone
Static electricity in Petrol Stations
As a continuation of the video about static electricity in which a girl had a fire accident on getting out of her car and directly touching the nosepiece, we come across a similar case:
With the generalisation of self-service facilities in petrol stations people should be warned about the outbreak of fires resulting from static electricity while they are pouring in petrol.
150 cases of this type of fire have been investigated and the results were very surprising.
1. Of the 150 cases, more happened to women than men, due to their habit of getting in and out of the vehicle while the petrol is being poured in.
2. In the majority of cases the people had re-entered their cars when the hose was still pouring petrol out (the danger of the triggers on the nosepieces). When they finished refuelling and got out to remove the hose pistol the fire began, as a result of the static electricity.
3. The majority of those affected used rubber-soled footwear and clothes of synthetic fibres.
4. Never use mobile phones when filling up with fuel.
5. It is well known that it is the vapour that comes from the petrol that burns and causes the fire when it makes contact with static charges.
6. In twenty-nine of the cases analysed, the people re-entered their vehicles and later touched the pistols during the petrol fuelling process. This happened in cars of different varieties of makes and models.
7. Seventeen fires occurred before, during or immediately after the cap of the petrol tank was removed and before starting to fill up with petrol.
8. The static charge often results from when a passenger rubs their clothes against the upholstery of the seats on getting in or out of the vehicle. To avoid this, it is recommendable that NOBODY gets in or out of the vehicle while the petrol is being poured in. Movement in or out should only be done BEFORE starting, or when the fuelling is finished and the petrol cap placed.
9. MAXIMISE THE PRECAUTIONS if the petrol has spilt or splashed onto the ground. Highly inflammable vapours are immediately produced which can be ignited by sparks of static electricity from the turning on of electronic equipment (mobile phones, remote controls, etc.) or by the ignition of the vehicle itself. BEFORE starting up the engine again, the spilt petrol must be gathered or neutralised by the petrol station staff.
LOADING PETROL
IN YOUR VEHICLE: Stop, put the handbrake on and turn off the engine, radio and lights
NEVER: Never return to your vehicle while you are pouring in fuel.
AS A PRECAUTION: Get used to closing the car door on getting out or into the vehicle and in this way the static electricity will be discharged on touching something metallic.
After closing the door TOUCH THE METAL PART OF THE BODYWORK before touching the petrol pump pistol. By doing this the static electricity in your body will be discharged on the metal and not on the pistol.
RESPECT THE SAFETY REGULATIONS
As mentioned, we undertake this as a daily task, both inside and outside the company. The following bulletin aims to raise public awareness of this danger.
I ask you to send this information to ALL your friends and family, especially those carrying children in the cars when pouring in petrol. Thank you for passing on this information.

Burma Cyclone Nargis 2008
A well-known speaker started off his seminar by:
holding up a RM 50.00 bill In the room of 200, he asked, 'Who would like this RM 50 bill?'
Hands started going up.
He said, 'I am going to give this RM50 to one of you but first, let me do this.
He proceeded to crumple up the RM 50 bill .
He then asked, 'Who still wants it?'
Still the hands were up in the air.
Well, he replied, 'What if I do this?'
And he dropped it on the ground and started to grind it into the floor with his shoe.
He picked it up, now crumpled and dirty.
'Now, who still wants it?'
Still the hands went into the air.
My friends, we have all learned a very valuable lesson.
No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it, because it did not decrease in value.
It was still worth RM 50 .
Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way.
We feel as though we are worthless.
But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value.
Dirty or clean, crumpled or finely creased, you are still priceless to those who DO LOVE you.
The worth of our lives comes not in what we do or who we know, but by WHO WE ARE and WHOSE WE ARE.
You are special.
Don't EVER forget it.'
If you do not pass this on, you may never know the lives it touches, the hurting hearts it speaks to, or the hope that it can bring.
Count your blessings, not your problems.
'And remember: amateurs built the ark .... professionals built the Titanic.'
Pass this on to touch someone you care.
p/s:
After reading this message, i started to ask myself if I have treated people around me more valuable than the RM50 bill?
Do I care what is happening to the people around me?
What am I doing for the Mynmar & China's victims?

Bloggers launch “Penangites for Trams” campaign
Source: Anilnetto.com
Today, several Penang-based bloggers and websites simultaneously launched a “Penangites for Trams” campaign.
We hope more and more bloggers and webmasters - especially all those who care for Penang - will join in the campaign by placing these graphics on their blogs or websites. You may link the graphic to the URL for this post or choose to link to any other article or post extolling the benefits of trams.
This will help to raise awareness of the viability and economic benefits of trams. Of course, trams work best as part of an integrated public transport system, complementing an efficient and extensive network of buses.
Fittingly, the latest issue of the business weekly The Edge carries a full-page article in support of the re-introduction of trams in Penang.
Join in the campaign and pass the word around.
So far, these are the other bloggers and websites that support the re-introduction of trams in Penang:

Come on, together we can bring the trams back to Penang!
In case you are wondering what advantages trams bring, here’s a list from the City of Edinburgh Council website.
The number of residents, visitors and businesses are expanding, especially in key areas such as the Waterfront and west Edinburgh.
While growth is good for our economy, it also means our roads will get busier and journeys longer without a new transport choice. Trams can carry large numbers of people quickly and efficiently.
Trams don’t take up a lot of road space but they do carry a lot of people. As Edinburgh continues to grow, trams will be the most efficient way for people to travel about our city.
- Trams show a city is a modern and well-connected place to do business which can lead to more investment, new jobs, regeneration and more prosperity for us all
- Trams are an attractive option for motorists, with car users likely to be attracted to tram travel. Research shows 20% of peak hour and 50% of weekend tram passengers in the UK previously travelled by car
- Trams enhance the urban environment and generate civic pride
- Trams will encourage shoppers to travel to the city centre which can lead to more investment by businesses and regeneration. Dublin saw a rise of between 20% - 50% in pedestrian footfall figures on Grafton Street, the city’s main shopping thoroughfare. Some retailers reported a 25% increase in trade
- Residential and commercial properties may see prices increase beside tram routes. In some cities with trams, house prices have risen by up to 15% and rental prices by up to 7%
- As trams run on electricity, there will be no emissions from the vehicles themselves
- Trams will be accessible to everyone, with benefits of low level boardings at every stop and other easy-to-use features which particularly help the disabled and less mobile
- Trams will be safe to use as, in addition to a driver, every tram will have a passenger attendant on board to check tickets, answer passenger queries and ensure no anti-social behaviour occurs
- Trams will offer concessionary fares

Good Drivers Just Drive
Inattention, caused generally by a road user being distracted, is the most common factor reported by police in fatal and serious injury crashes. Each year nearly half of all reported casualty crashes are attributed to inattention.
Driving is a complex task and requires the use and coordination of various skills – physical, cognitive and sensory. Despite this, drivers still engage in numerous activities whilst driving that can distract the driver’s attention from the task. These range from using mobile phones, to staring at an activity alongside the road, adjusting the controls of audio equipment, eating and drinking and distractions caused by children.
Research shows distractions can cause:
- Drivers to straddle lanes on a multi lane road or veer across the road;
- Drivers to drive inconsistently, speeding up or slowing down without apparent reason;
- Difficulty in maintaining appropriate following distances from vehicles in front (eg tailgating);
- Slower reaction times and hence heightened crash risk;
- Impairment of the drivers judgement and awareness of safe gaps in traffic.
Drivers are more often distracted by activities that occur within the car than outside the vehicle. The major distraction activities, rated from highest to lowest, are:
- Using/dialling mobile phone;
- Adjusting radio, cassette, compact disc (CD);
- Adjusting vehicle/climate controls;
- Eating or drinking;
- Passenger/children distraction.
Drivers believe the most common driving distraction is the use of hand held mobile phones. Specifically, drivers surveyed believed that using SMS is the distraction most likely to cause a crash with the next most distracting activities cited as:
- Speaking on a mobile phone;
- Replacing a CD;
- Changing radio stations;
- Reading a street directory, diary or map.
Do you drive like that? (I'm sorry, I drove like that sometime. I won't do that again. How about you? Leave your comments to me)
Dengue Fever Remedy
Another forwarded message that I received, let me share with you:
Dengue Fever Remedy
I would like to share this interesting discovery from a classmate's son who has just recovered from dengue fever. Apparently, his son was in the critical stage at the ICU when his blood platelet counts drops to 15 after 15 liters of blood transfusion.
His father was so worried that he seeks another friend's recommendation and his son was saved. He confessed to me that he gave his son raw juice of the papaya leaves. From a pallet count of 45 after 20 liters of blood transfusion, and after drinking the raw papaya leaf juice, his pallet count jumps instantly to 135. Even the doctors and nurses were surprised. After the second day he was discharged. So he asked me to pass this good news around.
Accordingly it is raw papaya leaves, 2pcs just cleaned and pound and squeeze with filter cloth. You will only get one tablespoon per leaf. So two tablespoon per serving once a day. Do not boil or cook or rinse with hot water, it will loose its strength. Only the leafy part and no stem or sap. It is very bitter and you have to swallow it like "Won Low Kat". But it works.
*Papaya Juice - Cure for Dengue*
You may have heard this elsewhere but if not I am glad to inform you that papaya juice is a natural cure for dengue fever. As dengue fever is rampant now, I think it's good to share this with all.
A friend of mine had dengue last year. It was a very serious situation for her as her platelet count had dropped to 28,000 after 3 days in hospital and water has started to fill up her lung. She had difficulty in breathing. She was only 32-year old. Doctor says there's no cure for dengue. We just have to wait for her body immune system to build up resistance against dengue and fight its own battle. She already had 2 blood transfusion and all of us were praying very hard as her platelet continued to drop since the first day she was admitted.
Fortunately her mother-in-law heard that papaya juice would help to reduce the fever and got some papaya leaves, pounded them and squeeze the juice out for her. The next day, her platelet count started to increase, her fever subside. We continued to feed her with papaya juice and she recovered after 3 days!!!
Amazing but it's true. It's believed one's body would be overheated when one is down with dengue and that also caused the patient to have fever papaya juice has cooling effect. Thus, it helps to reduce the level of heat in one's body, thus the fever will go away. I found that it's also good when one is having sore throat or suffering from heat.
Please spread the news about this as lately there are many dengue cases. It's great if such natural cure could help to ease the sufferings of dengue patients.
Furthermore it's so easily available.
Blend them and squeeze the juice! It's simple and miraculously effective!!

How To Find a Doctor or Treatment Facility
How To Find a Doctor or Treatment Facility If You Have Cancer
If you have been diagnosed with cancer, finding a doctor and treatment facility for your cancer care is an important step to getting the best treatment possible. Although the health care system is complex, resources are available to guide you in finding a doctor, getting a second opinion, and choosing a treatment facility. Below are suggestions and information resources to help you with these important decisions.
Physician Training and Credentials
When choosing a doctor for your cancer care, you may find it helpful to know some of the terms used to describe a doctor’s training and credentials.
Most physicians who treat people with cancer are medical doctors (they have an M.D. degree). The basic training for a physician includes 4 years of premedical education at a college or university, 4 years of medical school to earn an M.D. degree, and a residency consisting of 3 to 7 years of postgraduate education and training. Physicians must pass an exam to become licensed (legally permitted) to practice medicine in their state. Each state or territory has its own procedures and general standards for licensing physicians.
Specialists are physicians who have completed their residency training in a specific area, such as internal medicine. Independent specialty boards certify physicians after they have fulfilled certain requirements. These requirements include meeting specific education and training criteria, being licensed to practice medicine, and passing an examination given by the specialty board. Doctors who have met all of the requirements are given the status of “Diplomate” and are board-certified as specialists. Doctors who are board-eligible have obtained the required education and training, but have not completed the specialty board examination.
After being trained and certified as a specialist, a physician may choose to become a subspecialist. A subspecialist has at least 1 additional year of full-time education in a particular area of a specialty. This training is designed to increase the physician’s expertise in a specific field. Specialists can be board-certified in their subspecialty as well.
The following are some specialties and subspecialties that pertain to cancer treatment:
Medical Oncology is a subspecialty of internal medicine. Doctors who specialize in internal medicine treat a wide range of medical problems. Medical oncologists treat cancer and manage the patient’s course of treatment. A medical oncologist may also consult with other physicians about the patient’s care or refer the patient to other specialists.
Hematology is a subspecialty of internal medicine. Hematologists focus on diseases of the blood and related tissues, including the bone marrow, spleen, and lymph nodes.
Radiation Oncology is a subspecialty of radiology. Radiology is the use of x-rays and other forms of radiation to diagnose and treat disease. Radiation oncologists specialize in the use of radiation to treat cancer.
Surgery is a specialty that pertains to the treatment of disease by surgical operation. General surgeons perform operations on almost any area of the body. Physicians can also choose to specialize in a certain type of surgery; for example, thoracic surgeons are specialists who perform operations specifically in the chest area, including the lungs and the esophagus.
Finding a Doctor
One way to find a doctor who specializes in cancer care is to ask for a referral from your primary care physician. You may know a specialist yourself, or through the experience of a family member, coworker, or friend.
The following resources may also be able to provide you with names of doctors who specialize in treating specific diseases or conditions. However, these resources may not have information about the quality of care that the doctors provide.
-Your local hospital or its patient referral service may be able to provide you with a list of specialists who practice at that hospital.
-Your nearest National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated cancer center can provide information about doctors who practice at that center. http://www.nci.com.my on the Internet.
-Local medical societies may maintain lists of doctors in each specialty.
-Public and medical libraries may have print directories of doctors’ names listed geographically by specialty.
-Your local Yellow Pages or Yellow Book may have doctors listed by specialty under “Physicians.”
If you are a member of a health insurance plan, your choice may be limited to doctors who participate in your plan. Your insurance company can provide you with a list of participating primary care doctors and specialists. It is important to ask your insurance company if the doctor you choose is accepting new patients through your health plan. You also have the option of seeing a doctor outside your health plan and paying the costs yourself. If you have a choice of health insurance plans, you may first wish to consider which doctor or doctors you would like to use, then choose a plan that includes your chosen physician(s).
You will have many factors to consider when choosing a doctor. To make an informed decision, you may wish to speak with several doctors before choosing one. When you meet with each doctor, you might want to consider the following:
-Does the doctor have the education and training to meet my needs?
-Does the doctor use the hospital that I have chosen?
-Does the doctor listen to me and treat me with respect?
-Does the doctor explain things clearly and encourage me to ask questions?
-What are the doctor’s office hours?
-Who covers for the doctor when he or she is unavailable? Will that person have access to my medical records?
-How long does it take to get an appointment with the doctor?
If you are choosing a surgeon, you may wish to ask additional questions about the surgeon’s background and experience with specific procedures. These questions may include:
-Is the surgeon board-certified?
-Has the surgeon been evaluated by a national professional association of surgeons?
-At which treatment facility or facilities does the surgeon practice?
-How often does the surgeon perform the type of surgery I need?
-How many of these procedures has the surgeon performed? What was the success rate?
It is important for you to feel comfortable with the specialist that you choose because you will be working closely with that person to make decisions about your cancer treatment. Trust your own observations and feelings when deciding on a doctor for your medical care.
Other health professionals and support services may also be important during cancer treatment. Your Health Care Team:
-Your Doctor Is Only the Beginning
-First Things First: Your Own Role
-Social workers
-A psychiatrist
-A psychologist
-Nurses
-Another form of home care is from a home health aide.
-Rehabilitation services
-Dietary or nutritional counseling or services
-Prayer and spiritual counseling
-Hospice care
-Your team of health care professionals
Getting a Second Opinion
Once you receive your doctor’s opinion about the diagnosis and treatment plan, you may want to get another doctor’s advice before you begin treatment. This is known as getting a second opinion. You can do this by asking another specialist to review all of the materials related to your case. A second opinion can confirm or suggest modifications to your doctor’s proposed treatment plan, provide reassurance that you have explored all of your options, and answer any questions you may have.
Getting a second opinion is done frequently, and most physicians welcome another doctor’s views. In fact, your doctor may be able to recommend a specialist for this consultation. However, some people find it uncomfortable to request a second opinion. When discussing this issue with your doctor, it may be helpful to express satisfaction with your doctor’s decision and care, and mention that you want your decision about treatment to be as thoroughly informed as possible.
You may also wish to bring a family member along for support when asking for a second opinion. It is best to involve your doctor in the process of getting a second opinion, because your doctor will need to make your medical records (such as your test results and x-rays) available to the specialist. Some health care plans require a second opinion, particularly if a doctor recommends surgery. Other health care plans will pay for a second opinion if the patient requests it. If your plan does not cover a second opinion, you can still obtain one if you are willing to cover the cost.
Finding a Treatment Facility
Choosing a treatment facility is another important consideration for getting the best medical care possible. Although you may not be able to choose which hospital treats you in an emergency, you can choose a facility for scheduled and ongoing care. If you have already found a doctor for your cancer treatment, you may need to choose a facility based on where your doctor practices. Your doctor may be able to recommend a facility that provides quality care to meet your needs.
You may wish to ask the following questions when considering a treatment facility:
-Has the facility had experience and success in treating my condition?
-Has the facility been rated by state, consumer, or other groups for its quality of care?
-How does the facility check on and work to improve its quality of care?
-Has the facility been approved by a nationally recognized accrediting body.
-Does the facility explain patients’ rights and responsibilities? Are copies of this information available to patients?
-Does the treatment facility offer support services, such as social workers and resources, to help me find financial assistance if I need it?
-Is the facility conveniently located?
If you are a member of a health insurance plan, your choice of treatment facilities may be limited to those that participate in your plan. Your insurance company can provide you with a list of approved facilities. Although the costs of cancer treatment can be very high, you have the option of paying out-of-pocket if you want to use a treatment facility that is not covered by your insurance plan. If you are considering paying for treatment yourself, you may wish to discuss the possible costs with your doctor beforehand. You may also want to speak with the person who does the billing for the treatment facility. In some instances, nurses and social workers can provide you with more information about coverage, eligibility, and insurance issues.
Exercise as Medicine
An increasing body of scientific evidence point to the fact that exercise is the best medicine. A large and growing body of clinical and epidemiologic evidence supports the concept that specifically prescribed exercise is highly effective as treatment and prevention or many diseases as well as for health enhancement.
A Consumer Reports survey of more than 46,000 people found exercise to be almost as effective as – and sometimes more effective than – prescription medications for common medical problems.
As Good As Medical Treatment
When we think of “medicine”, we often think of a drug, something to be taken by mouth or injection. Although not “taken” but “done”, an exercise prescription is much like a drug prescription.
Exercise is a medicine that can prevent or treat many disabling or fatal diseases, i.e. heart disease, cancer, stroke, hypertension, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), diabetes, and osteoporosis, etc.
Evidence-based studies have found that exercise is highly effective as treatment and prevention for these diseases as well as for health enhancement.
The health rewards of exercise extend far beyond its benefits for specific diseases. Exercise reduces blood clotting, enhances self-image, elevates mood, reduces stress, improves appearance, increases energy, gives the feeling of well-being (probably by stimulating endorphins). It reinforces other positive lifestyle changes, such as healthier eating habits and smoking cessation. It also stimulates creative thinking.
Furthermore, the ability of exercise to restore function to organs, muscles, joints, and bones is not shared by drugs or surgery. Paradoxically, conventional medical practice favours physical rest and inactivity during recovery from illness.
No joke! It really work!
