Top 10 High-Antioxidant Foods

1. Tomatoes

Tomatoes are rich in lycopene which has 20 times the antioxidant potential of vitamin C. In its several categories, small tomatoes have a higher vitamin C content and are better antioxidant effective. You’d better cook them since the lycopene increases several times when cooked.

2. Grapes

The anthocyanin glycosides in grape seeds have a high antioxidant capability: 20 times that of vitamin C and 50 times vitamin E. Grapes used for wine have their antioxidant capacity increased after fermentation.

3. Green tea

Green tea is high in vitamin C and polyphenols. Unlike black and oolong teas, green tea is made from leaves that are not fermented before they are dried. Thus, the antioxidant levels of green tea are five times higher than black tea.

4. Salmon

It is the only meat included in the antioxidant food list. Its strong antioxidant effect comes from the omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, which balances out the omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids that general livestock and poultry meats contain.

5. Nuts

Nuts including cashews, walnuts, hazelnuts and peanuts are rich in vitamin E and have great antioxidant functions. However, don’t eat too many since they are a high fat food.6. Cauliflower

Having vitamin A and C, cauliflower also contains a unique antioxidant substance. This plant gathers almost all set in anti-oxidants together and is considered an anti-cancer star.

7. Blueberries

Berry fruits are rich in carotene and vitamin C, which are considered the most important components by the medical profession. In addition, they contain potassium and soluble fiber, which can lower blood cholesterol levels and reduce the probability of suffering from hypertension.

8. Garlic

Sulphide contained in garlic can not only reduce inner body cholesterol effectively, but also prevent hypertension and cardiovascular disease. Drinking a bottle of milk after eating garlic can wipe out the annoying smell.

9. Spinach

Spinach also contains iron, potassium, carotere, vitamin C, magnesium and other minerals as well as folic acid, which can lower blood pressure and boost sentiment effectively. Ask Popeye! Filter spinach in hot water to remove salt before eating it to avoid oxalate stones.

10. Oats

Oats, loaded with protein, calcium, riboflavin, thiamine and other components, are the only cereal grains appearing on the list of best foods. Adequate daily intake of oats can accelerate the human metabolism and the synthesis of amino acids and promote cell renewal.

Antioxidant tips

Antioxidants are found in certain foods that neutralize free radicals. These include the nutrient antioxidants, vitamins A, C and E, and the minerals copper, zinc and selenium.

Other dietary food compounds, such as the photochemicals in plants and zoochemicals from animal products, are believed to have greater antioxidant effects than either vitamins or minerals. These are called the non-nutrient antioxidants and include photochemicals such as lycopenes in tomatoes, and anthocyanins found in cranberries.

Generally, the deeper and richer the color of fruits and vegetables is, the higher the quantity of antioxidants.

However, the color rule of thumb does not apply to varieties of tea. The darker the variety of tea is, the lower its antioxidant concentration, because it has been oxidized.

Fruit juice contains antioxidants, but not as much as the fruits from which they are made, since the antioxidants are concentrated in the skins and pulps.

How The VISA & MasterCard Telephone Credit Card Scam Works

This is something worth your knowing.
-
This one is pretty slick since they provide Y O U with all the information, except the one piece they want.
-
Note, the callers do not ask for your card number; they already have it. This information is worth reading.
-
By understanding how the VISA & MasterCard Telephone Credit Card Scam works, you'll be better prepared to protect yourself.
-
One of our employees was called on Wednesday from 'VISA', and I was called on Thursday from 'MasterCard'.
-
The scam works like this:
Person calling says, 'This is (name), and I'm calling from the Security and Fraud Department at VISA. My badge number is 12460. Your card has been flagged for an unusual purchase pattern, and I'm calling to verify. This would be on your VISA card which was issued by (name of bank) did you purchase an Anti-Telemarketing Device for ?97.99 from a Marketing company based in London ?'
When you say 'No',
-
the caller continues with, 'Then we will be issuing a credit to your account. This is a company we have been watching and the charges range from ?97 to ?97, just under the ?00 purchase pattern that flags most cards. Before your next statement, the credit will be sent to (gives you your address), is that correct?'
You say 'yes'.
-
The caller continues - 'I will be starting a fraud investigation. If you have any questions, you should call the 0800 number listed on the back of your card (0800-VISA) and ask for Security. You will need to refer to this Control Number.'
The caller then gives you a 6 digit number. 'Do you need me to read it again?'
-
Here's the IMPORTANT part on how the scam works the caller then says, 'I need to verify you are in possession of your card.'
He'll ask you to 'turn your card over and look for some numbers.' There are 7 numbers; the first 4 are part of your card number, the next 3 are the security numbers that verify you are the possessor of the card. These are the numbers you sometimes use to make Internet purchases to prove you have the card. The caller will ask you to read the 3 numbers to him.
-
After you tell the caller the 3 numbers, he'll say, 'That is correct, I just needed to verify that the card has not been lost or stolen, and that you still have your card. Do you have any other questions?'
After you say, 'No,' the caller then thanks you and states, 'Don't hesitate to call back if you do', and hangs up.
-
You actually say very little, and they never ask for or tell you the Card number. But after we were called on Wednesday, we called back within 20 minutes to ask a question. Are we glad we did!
The REAL VISA Security Department told us it was a scam and in the last 15 minutes a new purchase of ?97.99 was charged to our card. Long story - short - we made a real fraud report and closed the VISA account. VISA is reissuing us a new number.
-
Note: A Few Things You Should Know.
1. What the scammers want is the 3-digit PIN number on the back of the card.
-
2. Don't give it to them.
-
3. Instead, tell them you'll call VISA or MasterCard directly for verification of their conversation.
-
4. The real VISA told us that they will never ask for anything on the card as they already know the information since they issued the card!
-
If you give the scammers your 3 Digit PIN Number, you think you're receiving a credit. However, by the time you get your statement you'll see charges for purchases you didn't make, and by then it's almost too late and/or more difficult to actually file a fraud report.
-
What makes this more remarkable is that on Thursday, I got a call from a 'Jason Richardson of MasterCard' with a word-for-word repeat of the VISA scam. This time I didn't let him finish. I hung up! We filed a police report, as instructed by VISA. The police said they are taking several of these reports daily! They also urged us to tell everybody we know that this scam is happening .
-
Please pass this on to all your family and friends.
By informing each other, we protect each other.

Drink Water and Stay healthy and Active
-
This makes sense.
The Chinese and Japanese drink hot tea with their meals, not cold water.
Maybe it is time we adopt their drinking habit while eating!!!
Nothing to lose, everything to gain.
-
For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion. Once this "sludge" reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer.
-
It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.
-
A serious note about heart attacks:
Women should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting. Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line. You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack. Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms. 60% of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up. Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep.
-
Let's be careful and be aware.
The more we know, the better chance we could survive.

Press the 'CLEAR' button on the pump

The below message is collected via e-mail.

Pressing the 'clear' button after purchasing gasoline at the pump with a credit card (or with a debit card)

Jim just told me about something that happened to one of his coworkers. She used her credit/debit card to purchase gas at the pump (like most of us do).

She received her receipt like normal. However, when she checked her statement, there were 2 $50 charges added in addition to her purchase. Upon investigation, she found out that because she did not press the 'CLEAR' but ton on the pump, the employee inside the store was able to use her card to purchase his/her own gas! To keep this from happening, after you get your receipt, you must press the 'CLEAR' button or your information will be stored until the next customer inserts their card.

Be sure to tell all your friends/family so that this doesn't happen to them!

As a precaution, make it your habit to check on your credit card or debit card's account history and balance several times a month rather than wait for the statement to arrive in the mail.

Make Money From The New Subsidy Scheme?

Below is the interesting article that I received from friend:

My friend Joey Singh, the former Radio 4 deejay, is always thinking of ways to supplement the miserly 'bunga' he is earning from the bank. He sent me this e-mail on profiteering from the new fuel subsidy scheme. Incidentally, Pos Malaysia has just announced they will hand out cash if you show up in person.

Dear TV Smith,

Can't believe that the people advising our premier could have thought about a RM625 annual subsidy for every private car owner (2000 cc and below)in lieu of govt subsidised fuel at the pump!

Oh, this is so beautiful, if not downright scary. You see, I have a car (30 year-old Toyota Corona) which at market value would be probably 800 to 1,500 ringgit max. Now, I have just got the wildest, most brainy idea that only a Bayi can think of...

I go out tomorrow and buy another 10 cars (each maybe about 500 to 800 ringgit) being sold off by desperate owners because nobody wants them. The cars are ready-for-the-scrapyard kind but just barely good enough for a Puspakom inspection and a transfer of ownership effected to me.

Then I just find a place to store all of these cars (or I could even scrap them and have cash in hand from the besi buruk man) and then armed with only the registration cards of each car, I proceed to take a 3rd party insurance (about 60 ringgit without any NCB per car) and pop in to my friendly Pos Malaysia or JPJ office and spend about 70 ringgit to 100 ringgit for each car for a one year road tax disc.

I spend about roughly 150 ringgit for this procedure and now I hold my breath as the man or lady behind the counter proceed to issue a RM625 ringgit postal order in my name for every card presented at the counter...

My yearly cost is RM 150 and I get RM 625 in return. A whopping RM 475 profit that is equivalent to a 12,000 ringgit in fixed deposit for a year. I rest my case...

Smith, please highlight this letter in your next blog posting. I think I may be on to something. Give me a little credit though... This former Radio DJ also wants to be an adviser to the PM like everyone else in this country :)

Cheers,
Joey

When Fuel Prices GO UP!

Interesting video clip:
Force drivers to slow down their vehicles!

Alternative Fuel Source - NGV

When gas prices rise, people's thoughts naturally jump to alternative fuel sources.
A Natural gas vehicle or NGV is a vehicle that uses compressed natural gas (CNG) or, less commonly, liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a clean alternative to other automobile fuels.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Natural-gas vehicles offer these benefits:

  • The biggest advantage of NGVs is that they reduce environmentally harmful emissions.
  • NGVs are safer. The fuel storage tanks on an NGV are thicker and stronger than gasoline or diesel tanks. There has not been an NGV fuel-tank rupture in more than two years in the United States.
  • Natural gas costs are lower than gasoline. On average, natural gas costs one-third less than gasoline at the pump.
  • Natural gas prices have exhibited significant stability compared to oil prices. Historically, natural gas prices have exhibited significant price stability compared to the prices of petroleum-based fuels. This stability makes it easier to plan accurately for long-term costs.
  • NGVs have lower maintenance costs. Because natural gas burns so cleanly, it results in less wear and tear on the engine and extends the time between tune-ups and oil changes.
Disadvantages
  • One of the biggest complaints about NGVs is that they aren't as roomy as gasoline cars. This is because NGVs have to give up precious cargo and trunk space to accommodate the fuel storage cylinders. Not only that, these cylinders can be expensive to design and build -- a contributing factor to the higher overall costs of a natural-gas vehicle compared to a gasoline-powered car.
  • Another drawback is the limited driving range of NGVs, which is typically about half that of a gasoline-powered vehicle. For example, Honda's natural gas Civic, the Civic GX, can go up to 220 miles without refueling. A typical gasoline-powered Civic can go approximately 350 miles without refueling. If a dedicated NGV ran out of fuel on the road, it would have to be towed to the owner's home or to a local natural gas refueling station, which might be harder to find than a "regular" gas station.

Price per Kilometer comparison
Petrol RM0.22 / km (Before Increase RM1.92)
Petrol RM0.31 / km (After Increase RM2.70 increase 40%)
NGV RM0.06 / km

Saving of RM0.16 /km (Before Increase RM1.92)
Saving of RM0.25 /km (After Increase RM2.70 increase 40%)

that is about 73% saving (Before Increase RM1.92)
that is about 80% saving (After Increase RM2.70 increase 40%)

If I were to drive 60km daily for 30 days per month.

Total distance 60 x 30 = 1800km
Total fuel price consume per month:Petrol RM0.22 x 1800 = RM396 (Before Increase)
Total fuel price consume per month:Petrol RM0.31 x 1800 = RM558 ( After Increase)
Natural Gas(CNG) RM0.06 x 2100 = RM108

Saving per month is RM288 (Before Increase RM1.92)
Saving per month is RM450 (After Increase RM2.70 increase 40%)

Yearly Saving RM288 x 12 = Rm3456
Yearly Saving RM450 x 12 = Rm5400

The above calculation is base on car install NGV in 2006. Now is 2008, let reduce the saving by 10% due to the reason, the get car older and become inefficient in fuel consumption.

Yearly Saving Rm3456 x 0.90 = RM3110
Yearly Saving Rm5400 x 0.90 = RM4860

With the additional rebate of RM625 upon paying road tax for car below 2000cc , your saving per year would be

RM4860 + Rm625 = RM5485 per year

Per Month Saving RM5485/12 = RM457

Installation Price:
For Carburetor Car around RM2900 to RM3200
For Fuel Injection Car around Rm5500 to RM6500

Blueberries Improve Memory

It is an old adage that “we are what we eat.” Current research is proving that this is no old wives tale especially when it comes to our brains.

The Peninsula Medical School and the University of Reading studied the ability of blueberries to improve memory.

The results of this research showed that fruits like blueberries, which are high in phytochemicals, can improve and even reverse age-related memory deficits while offering many other health benefits for the body.

The studies also show that improvements are possible for both long term and short term memory function.

Top 10: Interview Mistakes

Most of the time, potential job candidates are not aware of the mistakes they make before and during the interview. These small mistakes that might cost them a job.

Number 10
Running Late Without Notice.
Turning up late for the interview and never calling to say you are running late will not give a good impression to your potential employer. If you are running late, do inform your interviewer and apologize that you are running late and ask if it is possible for you to attend the interview a little bit late or just request for the interview to be rescheduled if that is not possible.

Of course, the worst that could happen which could quash your employment chances is your attitude when you do not even bother to turn up at an interview without calling.

Number 9
Lack of Preparation
Preparation for an interview includes:

  1. Research on the background of the company
  2. Bring along an extra copy of your resumé and relevant supporting documents, just in case
  3. Be prepared with the answers for possible common interview questions
  4. Rehearse on your speech, clarity, confidence, etc. prior to the interview

In the event that you are required to attend an interview at short notice and you applied for a job with no company description stated in the ad, keep your cool and ask questions during the interview to know more about the company.

It is recommended that you carry an extra copy of your resumé in your working bag just in case you are called for a job interview during your lunch/tea break at short notice.

Number 8
Lack of Confidence/Over Confidence
Lack of confidence could be perceived by potential employers as your lack of preparation; being nervous could also be giving the impression that you are trying to cover something or is lying. Being over confident may turn interviewers off as you may be viewed as being too big-headed or you may be viewed as a braggart who talks more than you deliver.

Number 7
Talking Too Much
It is not wise to talk too much and fail to listen and understand the questions asked. Listen carefully to answer the questions asked, be clear and concise in your answers to show that you understood the question and are not just rambling for the sake of talking. Be specific and respond directly to the questions asked. Be careful with your selection of words and think before you say anything to decide if what you are going to say is necessary or appropriate.

Number 6
Inappropriate Dressing
Avoid revealing clothes or being underdressed - stick to conventional dressing, i.e. mono colours and minimal accessories.

Number 5
Body Language
Avoid weak or too strong handshakes, minimal or almost no eye contact with the interviewer and slouching when seated. Keep a straight back when seated and refrain from fidgeting or shaking your legs, twitching your nose, biting your nails or other signs that showed your nervousness. Take a deep breath to remain calm and be aware of your body language. Your body language tells your interviewers more about you than your speech.

Number 4
Criticising or Slating Your Previous Employers/Company/Colleagues or Complaining About Your Day
No one likes a person who complains, keep in mind that it is not a recommended icebreaker. You are being interviewed to promote yourself as the best possible candidate for the post, not to criticise others or complain about the train/car that broke down on your way to the interview.

Number 3
Lying or Concealing Information
Never attempt to lie or cover up any vital information, no matter how important you thought it was for you to conceal the information. You may land the job but how long it will be before you are found out?

Number 2
Failing to Ask Questions
Ask questions to show that you are interested in the job, lack of enthusiasm is a killer of your chances of employment.

Number 1
Money Talk
Never bring up talk on salary at the beginning of the interview. Only talk about salary or your employment package, i.e. remuneration, benefits, etc. when the interviewer asks you or the matter has not been brought up and the interview is near its end.
